Knob and tube wiring:
Homes built prior to the 1930s were likely wired with knob and tube wiring. Many times the attic wiring has been deactivated and left in place, but if there is still active knob and tube wiring, insurance companies will not bind coverage until re-wiring has taken place and can be confirmed by a licensed electrician in writing.
